Earlier this year I was immensely fortunate to work with STA Travel, a global travel company, on the development of a bespoke theme for roll-out over the next 12-18 months over the blogs of each of their local subsidiaries.
It was a real pleasure working for such an esteemed firm, and not a little daunting knowing that the end result would be used by potentially hundreds of thousands of people around the globe.
Technically it was a pretty standard WordPress development, essentially using the standard post types and capabilities throughout. However a critical additional piece of functionality was creating a “Regions” taxonomy, which is a prominent part of how the website displays content and how users navigate it as well.
Additionally some custom PHP code was used to create a counter of the most read articles.
I really enjoyed working on this project, especially with the brilliant design team at STA Travel, and I look forward to seeing the theme roll out across their other blogs. At the time of writing, the theme is primarily only used on the Australian blog.
